FAQS for the Fall Fun Day October 2 Q: Is the Island Fair cancelled for 2021? A: We will not be hosting the Island Fair in Tom Nevers in 2021. Instead we are partnering with several other organizations to have a few of the traditional elements of the Fair in Town on October 2nd. Q: Is the Island Fair moving into Town permanently? A: NO! We expect to be back at Tom Nevers for September 17 & 18, 2022. Q: Why are you changing the Fair this year? A: The Island Fair is an entirely volunteer effort that takes hundreds of hours of work and relies on support from the DPW. So many of us are stretched thin this summer and we just didn't have the resources to make a big event happen. And there was a lot of competition for big tent rentals due to the increase in weddings this fall. But we know how much people enjoy the Island Fair, so we decided to try to do something smaller in Town by partnering with several other organizations. See our Thank You page for the list! Q: How do I get to the Fall Fun Day activities? A: Please use the NRTA buses, or bike, or walk to Town! There is no special parking arrangement for the Island Fair. The NRTA is still operating Park-N-Ride lots at The Muse and at Faregrounds Restaurant. The Mid Island Loop, Miacomet Loop, and Sconset via Old South Road Route operate year round. You can also park at Jetties Beach, the Town lot on Washington Street, or any other Town parking lot and walk into Town from there. If you park on the street in Town, please observe all parking rules and time restrictions. Q:Are all of the Fall Fun Day activities free? A: We are asking for a 'Suggested Donation' of $5 per person or $10 for a family to help us cover the costs of the prizes for the games at the Atheneum Garden, but all activities are free! However there will be food sales and t-shirt sales, and the vendors at the Sustainable Nantucket Farmers & Artisans Market will be selling their goods, so those things aren't free. Q:Why is access to the Atheneum Garden limited to 50 entrants at a time? A: The Atheneum has asked us to limit the number of people in the Garden. We also have only 300 pumpkins to win at the Ring Toss game, so we're using the tickets to spread out the number of people playing at one time. The Atheneum will be open on Saturday, and people need to be able to use the Weezie Library entrance. The ticket restriction applies only to the garden area where we're putting the games. Please respect any request to leave the area so that we can comply with the Athenuem's restrictions. Q:How will the timed-entry work at the Atheneum garden? A: The Atheneum Garden will open for games at 10:00 am and we'll admit a new group every half hour, so 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, 11:30, 12:00, 12:30, 1:00, and 1:30. You can pick the time you want to enter and get your ticket at the t-shirt sales table in the Garden in advance, so you know when you should come back. Each ticket will have the time printed on it. Each ticket is good for one play at each game where there is a prize (Pumpkin Ring Toss, Ducky Pluck, and Can Knock-Down) and unlimited play of the just-for-fun games (Pumpkin Tic-Tac-Toe and Apple Stack) One ticket per person. See our games page for more details on the games. Q:Are there restrooms available? A: Yes, the public restrooms at the Visitor Services Center on Federal Street and at the Town Pier on Washington Street are open to the public. Q:How can I support the Island Fair? A: We're so glad you asked! You can make a donation at the t-shirt table in the Atheneum Garden. You can buy a t-shirt there too! We have a new t-shirt design for this year, and we'll have limited quantities of the classic shirts as well. And we still need volunteers! Call Suzanne Cummings at 781-799-9729 or sign up online
